Sukkahville Pavilion

Composed by a series of hanging white cotton ropes, the design encloses space in a seemingly immaterial and ephemeral manner and attempts to reimagine the definition of boundary, space, and use of Sukkah. The dense yet, supple ropes subtly delimit inner inhabitation space and generate privacy for the inhabitant. The pavilion becomes alive at the moment when people walk into the field of ropes; hands and body are constantly and inevitably in contact with the soft cotton ropes. Then, one starts to allocate him or herself into the central void space surrounded by floating lines with just enough gap to grasp a glimpse of the outside. The oculus frames moments of the sky and transforms it into still imagery, and directs the pouring-in light to create shade throughout the day. Behind the White unfolds a heavenly ambience in a shape of a cylinder that is peripherally enclosed but dramatically exposed on the top.
