Beijing Aegean Repositioning Project
The first shopping mall in Beijing for Aegean, which is well
known for operating furniture and design-focused projects. Aegean Sea Shopping
Center opened in 2013 and provides 130,000 sq.m of retail space. The project is
positioned as mid-market. Key tenants include Redstar Pacific Cineplex and
Bravo-YH supermarket as well as Uniqlo.
In 2019, we were asked to rethink the office typology and turn the aging shopping mall into office buildings. The challenge of the project was to adapt the existing deep floor-plate, and make it a bright and friendly work environment. The solution was to cut the centre of floor-plate and created a generous atrium that brought light into the work space.
The new building’s façade is another notable attribute of our design. Using a laminated glass with metal fin, the façade will provide a simple, unified exterior alongside the Volkswagen building, with a material that recalls and complements the Volkswagen façade, yet allows for a higher degree of transparency from view looking outside.
